Cat Power and domestic Violence - 6th Installment for Ladies

Talking with Cat Power
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dk6qD1Uh4PQ

I saw this lady play at the barbican a couple of years ago. Shes amazing, her on stage performances used to be crazy she had a lot of issues at the begginning of her career. Shes now completely sober and really great to watch live! Here she talks openly and honestly about her triumphs and struggles over the span of her musical career so far. Shes also the loveliest woman in the world.

This is a really good advert it raises awareness of domestic violence very well which is sadly a part of some womens lives in the Uk, and for some men also.

Female Liberators and Revolutionaries

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U6Y-C1BIJ1Q

This is a fascinating video about the hidden histories of female revolutionaries. This I feel is a good representation of how women do achieve in society, and often end up in high status positions and have great working methods whether artistically or politically. However they are often just not written into the history books...so when it comes to the fact that there are not female graphic designers or great female artists...its very likely that there have been and are..they just arent/werent written much about....there clearly needs to be some kind of profile raising for female artists...they just seem not to be recognised very much, but by the looks of this video it could be a recurring theme.

This is the site that the last video came from, have a look around it might be of interest to some of you.The idea of unwritten or hidden histories is something that I have only recently discovered myself, through talking with female artists recently about this issue. Some of excerpts from these conversations can be (self promotion) seen in my final piece "The Glass Ceiling" at this years coming degree show.

Dont forget to check out the blog, so you can rewatch or catch up on any of the old posts and see what the gents are watching too.
